Leisure Rodeo, the creative studio of writer, director, and musician Scott Ballew, embodies the spirit of transformation and artistic exploration. An Austin native who cut his teeth in Los Angeles, Ballew has journeyed from Texas football star to acclaimed film director and accomplished musician.
With 20 years of experience in the film and advertising space, Ballew has worked with brands such as Toyota, North Face, Patagonia, Ford, Levi's, and most recently YETI. As YETI’s Head of Content for the last 9 years, Ballew oversaw over 100 short films and commercials. He directed shorts featuring Ryan Bingham, Margo Price, and Jimmy Chin. His original projects include the documentary "Everything ... For All Reasons" about American singer-songwriter Terry Allen and the film "All That Is Sacred," highlighting the 1970s Key West creative scene and literary giants like Thomas McGuane and Jimmy Buffett. In addition to commercial and documentary work, he recently joined the esteemed La Honda Records as a recording artist on their coveted roster.
Not unrelated, the music and film components also inform and complement each other. Ballew’s music, especially his album "Rio Bravo," combines the lyrical depth of Townes Van Zandt with the cinematic soundscapes of Ennio Morricone. His songs reflect life’s dichotomies, balancing humor and poignancy. For Ballew, songwriting is a way to process experiences and connect with others.
The impact of his work is profound, resonating deeply with fans through his films and music. For Ballew, the highest purpose of art is to make people feel less alone. Leisure Rodeo stands as a testament to this belief in authentic, heartfelt creations.
